AND i'm baaaaaaack!

haha! I'm back cos i'm feeling bored in the library when i'm supposed to be writing up my research proposal. Some updates before i go into what's gonna happen from now. So i was in my honours year last year and i graduated, got a 2nd upper. wasnt too happy about it cos i was 1.9 marks away from first class but anyway, didnt brood over it for too long cos life has got to go on. i believe we're always in the right place at the right time. So i'm still in australia anyway, trying to apply for further studies if i can get a scholarship. However to apply for the scholarship, i have to get enrolled into the uni first. Therefore now, i'm writing up a research proposal for the enrolment. V troublesome right..but it's ok cos the research proposal's quite interesting. IT'll b different from honours yr as i get to plan my own experiments but it'll invole alot of critical analysis. Hope i'll do fine. I'll be working on therapeutic targets for alcohol and drug abuse. more of neuroscience.

enough of babbling. i think i need to get back to it now. will update soon when i get the time. cya!

it's 440pm now and everyone in the office has left..haha. everyone seems to b in a it's-friday mode. i should b leaving soon but it's quite nice to hang around when there's no one around. mayb i can get abit more work done and go home later, since my house is just 5 mins away.

haven started any labwork yet!! it's good though, so i can concentrate on my research proposal. i'm v stressed out by it. 4000 word research proposal. due in 3 weeks. Have to give a seminar talk on it too...in a month! try to get as much of much report done so i can enjoy myself during the easter break. speaking of which, reena n i are planning on fraser island! it's the biggest sand island in australia. nice nature walks, clear blue waters..sounds so alluring..

waiting for my ordered primers to arrive be4 i can start any labwork. will b doin real time pcr...my supervisor says good techniques required to prevent contamination. he must have really trust me on this..haha.

Surprise!!! i'm back, up and blogging. haha. Have been caught up with lotsa stuff.

been back to sg for 3 measly weeks. But did alot back home. doing things as in catching up with friends and eating all the FOOD! haha. bet i gained quite a bit when i went back but that's alright...haha. gonna start on my exercise regime soon. actually, i have started...just ytd.

i'm at work now trying v hard to concentrate on the journals that i'm supposed to read but the construction work is driving me nuts..haha..so skiving a little to blog. I have to go sch everyday from 9-5 now..office hours. The good thing is no more exams for me...ever! haha..but i have presentations and reports to write up..

new ppl coming in these few days. now my house is like all asians..haha..used to b international..one singaporean too. i haven stayed with a singaporean be4 but she sounds nice so that's quite alright. So now, my house will have 3 singaporeans, 2 chinese (meaning from china), 1 british and 1 australian. All asians cuz the british girl's actually indian but born in london and the australian is from hong kong but born here. So this house is full of chinese! haha.

hope the new ones will b nice. I miss abby katie mo n ploy..thought of going to thailand to visit mo n ploy but too little time in sg to do that.

proclaiming my new enemy: sandflies!

The first time i was bitten was during dec 2006 and the scars left from those episodes of scratching are still on my legs!
I was bitten again. While playing bball with my housemates. who would have thought sandflies would lurk around bball courts. I normally spray insect repellent lest i get bitten by the huge mozzies n sandflies around here. I'm very prone to all insect bites, especially popular among mozzies and sometimes sandflies too. i think it's the blood type or some hormonal thing that causes the emission of some stuff that attracts insects to me. i've always been getting more bites than anyone else or if not, i'm the only one that gets attacked by the insects.
Biting is one thing but the aftermath is the worst. i cant stop the itch without scratching my legs raw. it's quite infuriating, especially when the itch aggravates in the night when i'm about to sleep or in the mid of my sleep. The bump gets really red. no it's purplish red. not a v pretty sight if u ask me. dont really dare to wear shorts out but if i wear long pants, the cloth will come into contact with the bites and then i'll break out into a scratchin frenzy.
I've taken antihistamine from the chemist in sch and doubling it with a cream to apply. both internal and external. you would've thought it'll work but no! think i have to get a stronger antibiotics or i'm thinkin of getting one of those clicker thing. u just put it on the bite, click it and presto! , the itch stops. haha. that's what the ad claims but i might give that a try. hope it works.

i'm trying to refrain myself from scratching to prevent those nasty scars from staying on my legs after the swelling has alleviated.
from now on, i'll spray insect repellent wherever i go. got to sleep now. seems like the itch somehow stopped so i better get to sleep soon before it starts again. ta!

Happy new yr to everyone!!! 2007 has indeed been a tough but great yr for me. I'm v thankful for having great friends and family.

sophia kristen and i went to southbank for countdown last night. This is my second time goin for a countdown cuz i swore nv to go for a countdown after i went for the millenium one in yr 2000 with my family. haha. U should have seen the crowd. i can even go up the bus without walking. I was practically lifted up the bus. lol.
So this yr's my 2nd time. it wasn't as crowded as i expected and the crowd dispersed really quickly. haha.
that was how i spent my new yr's eve. nothing exciting actually. ha.
And i made dumplings today! ahaha..dumplings as in jiao zi, not the ba zhang cuz according to sophia and her friends, today is yuan2 dan4 and we have to eat dumplings. I thought it was last week cuz i rem vividly that mum told me it was some time last week. NEways, the dumplings were great. I kneaded the dumpling skin! haha. And sophia's so nice to make the vegetarian filling for me. They're really good. Home made ones just cant be compared to the pre packed ones. oh..still salivating now even though i had two huge platefuls of it. haha.

OH and i was at the cinemas the other day and guess what movie is screening right now here. The banquet!! the one with zhang ziyi in it if i'm nt wrong. It was screening in sg in yr 2006 if my memory's not failing. haha. Movies here are released really slow..lol

It has been unusually cold ard here lately. rainy, gusty...the wind is really strong. like those that blows prior to a typhoon. haha. mayb i'm exaggerating a little but some tree branches have fallen off. I think when i go back to sg it'll b really hot. my friend said she couldn't get used to the weather in singapore and the humidity also...she said she couldn't breathe and was sick for the first few days. hope i don't get that. cuz i won't have much time in sg to afford to b sick and cooping up at home.

just got home from christmas dinner at granduncle's sister, aunty cecilia's house. i ate sooooo much today. i think i'll be fat by the time i go back. haha. but i enjoyed my time though. had too much to eat.
and i think i will b putting on weight too when i go back. cuz i have already planned on what i want to eat. hahaha. i want to eat you tiao the next morning i'm home. then mee reebus at the stall near my house. haha. and alot others. abit tired now. got to go sleep. will update again soon. i seem to haven gotten tired of updating my blog.

Abby and i have been going to the state library to study for the exams and everytime on our way to the library, we will see tourists taking photos. i'm really tired now but i cant sleep till i know abby's flight has departed.

it's raining! argh. of all nights! when i did my laundry and hung my clothes out to dry. when i heard the sound of rainfall, i tried to convince myself it's just the leaves rustling (sometimes when the leaves rustle they can also sound like raining mah). but it became apparant when the rain got heavier. i have half the mind to go down now (2am) to collect my clothes but the fear of the darkness (plus a tinge of laziness. haha) downstairs overcame my intention to bring my clothes in. so i'm just gonna leave the clothes there. the rain isn't too heavy and it rains at transient intervals. ha. it doesn't continue like a normal rain. haha. so i'm just gonna leave it there. guess i'll wash em again tmr morning. or afternoon. got ter sleep now.

i don't like possums. they are these cat-mouse like creatures that lurk around when dusk falls. they have really good balancing skills which renders them the ability to walk across the telephone lines (or wadever u call em..those along the streets). the noise they made at night is eerie. ha. or mayb it's just me. there's this one possum (i reckon it's a possum) that comes once in a while under my window (mayb it's not under my window but it certainly do sound like it's there) and started cackling..those evil kind of cackle mind you, and this really freaks me out. ha. it's not those shrill kind but those that u would expect from a goblin or gnome. haha . too much of fairy tales. anyway, i've only heard it 3 times and mayb it was far away.. really wanna know what made that noise. ha. mayb i'll draw my blinds next time i hear it but i'm pretty sure i wouldn't have the guts to do so.
sigh. i hate myself when i'm being timid and cowardly, or overly paranoid. trying to overcome all these..at least i know i'm improving a little already since i came over here. :)

these will be my last exams thruout my entire 15 (cant be bothered to count the exact no.) looooog years of education. ha.
after that, no more exams! yay!

i wanna go home soon!! missing home alot. trying to settle for a date to return. sadly, i cant go back for long cuz i might be starting my honours project earlier then the actual academic date for sch reopening.
plus ts is coming over to visit also. it'll be sooo fun! really anticipating for her arrival. she should be coming in early jan and mum wans us to go back together..so yea..

all stressed up over exams etc etc

will be missing the next month and a half. but will post something if anything exciting or extraordinary happens.:)

think i better post something before my blog's dead. haha. have been awfully busy for the past month. this'll continue till my finals i think. 7 assignments and two exams for oct! eeks!.

i'm in a holiday mode now cuz we're having two weeks break. i should snap out of it soon and work on my stuff. speaking of which, i think i'm gonna start on my take home exam now.
caught a cold a couple of days ago which made me slept for quite abit cuz of the flu tablets. Had a really good rest.

yup, it was pouring for the whole of last week in sunny brisbane! such irony, that the usually drying dams were overflowing last week and causing floods down the coast here. water level was around knee high and schools were closed. Fortunately it's fine over at my place here cuz i'm quite a distance away from the coasts.
This leads me to think that i'm always very fortunate. Since young, everything was paved quite nicly for me and my life was just as smooth as the flat roads in the desert. Mayb there might be a couple of stones that caused the car to jerk a little but i'm still going on steadily. That might be y i used to take alot of things for granted. In this couple of yrs, i've learnt to appreaciate those things that were so normal in the past 2 decades of my life.
Reflecting back, my life is really smooth sailing. Everywhere i go, i have people to help me out that's y i'm really thankful to lm for all of this. gxlmcb:).

kind of lazy to blog lately. haha. but i think i should update every now and then so here i am! haha!
last update was 9 aug. after that was just school and stuff. Went out on Tuesday night to celebrate katie's(housemate) birthday. Went to a restaurant called St Marco's but it was closed already. Can u imagine it? restaurant closed at night! haha. So we changed to the next best one that katie likes. It's call Wang's dynasty. From the name it's quite apparent that it's a chinese restaurant. The place is nice cuz it's just by the brisbane river. We had quite a bit of fun. There were 8 of us. 4 asians and 4 americans. We taught the americans how to eat rice with a fork and spoon. haha. They normally eat with just the spoon and i didn't know that until i observed it months back. I always though it was very normal to eat with fork and spoon. They were quite fascinated and started eating with both but it took them so long to eat. haha!
Anyway, i had fried rice. The restaurants here always have a vegetarian menu which is so much better when conpared to singapore's. But the fried rice wasn't as good. haha. We all enjoyed ourselves though. And of course we wouldn't go without taking some photos. Will upload all photos in the next couple of post cuz it's 1124pm now and i need to be in bed now. haha.

Happy National Day everyone! i just came back from the national day celebration. haha! watched the live telecast of the NDP. It was nice to see all the singaporeans around in queensland gathered around to celebrate. The people here created a very lively atmosphere. There were like ppl singing loudly to the national anthem and taking the pledge. haha. But it wasn't as nice as how the mediacorp advertised it to be. Mayb the audience was much lesser. i like the little flying kites. haha. to think that we can even break the guiness record by just flying kites.
Oh and in our invitation email, they said they'll be providing singapore cuisine and guess what 'cuisine' there were. Fried bee hoon and chicken wings. haha. Luckily i ate before i went there. oh and there was bandung too. haha.
There were trivias during the commercial break too and one of the questions that they asked was what do the crescent and the five stars on the singapore flag represent and what does majullah singapura stands for. haha!
Overall, it was fun. :)

i know i haven posted for like half a month. haha. was busy with stuff plus school has started. Loads of things happened so i'll just write about them randomly. I watched harry potter the day it was released and the first session of the day. It was really fun cuz u can see a whole lot of harry potter fans in their costumes. Queued up to get the book too. It was at borders and i went with my housemates (ploy, mo and abby). We woke up early and got there one hour before the sale time to queue. There were ppl dressing up too! haha. I saw hagrid, dumbledore, luna, prof trelawny, tonks, snape, the weasely twins, hermione and of course harry. haha. I think i'll nv get to see singaporean HP fans so enthusiastic. quite an experience. haha. The book is much cheaper here as compared to in sg. Plus it comes with a hedwig plushie! it's a TY owl and it's cute! haha. we got some balloons too that printed: we love harry. a little embarrassing though when i had to hold on to it when we went to the market after that. haha.
Went for the bridge to brisbane run also. Think it's a fun run for charity also. There were 30000 ppl running. we (reena and i) had to wake up at 430 in the morning to get there before 630 and it was freezing in the morning (it's still winter now). It was my first time wearing jacket and track pants for a run. haha. 12km and i couldn't walk too well today. haha. Guess it's because i have not been exercising consistently. had muscle ache from my sole to my waist but it was alot better than the 21k last yr. i literally cant move for days. haha.

ooo...i haven been updating for soooooo long. Pretty much busy with some stuff. School is starting next week. Nothin much happened for the past month. Oh and i caught the first day and first session of harry potter! it was my first time going for the first session. Quite an experience though cuz u can see those fans wearing robes and hogwarts uniform, completing with that maroon and yellow scarf! The cinema staff dressed up also, but not as good as the fans. haha. the staff used those huge black garbage bags as robes. haha.
New batch of housemates moved in already. All of them are very nice! just needed some more time to know each other better. Will post pictures of them when i got the pics.

i know i should blog, especially when my exams are long over. Haha. I will post a longer one cuz i'm still piecing out the photos and everything. Once it's done, i blog again. Lookin for houses for my friend and cousin (cousin's cousin to be exact). And also supervisor for my next sem's course. And i realise that i cant sit at home without getting fat(haha) so i got a part time job too. ha. It's good that they let me choose the days and i'll only be working for 2-3 days i think. Pay is good. $18.20 an hour! haha. It's a fruit n vege shop and i'm still under training now so it's still uncertain if i'm workin there. So i'm getting all busy again! :)
